A little hectic on the home front. I wanted to get yesterday’s Toby Veal story right, and there’s still shrapnel from the San Antonio trip. So enjoy a few nuggets to tide you over. Working on another fun one. First, enjoy Around the Horns, where Chris Kowalczyk is bringing you Houston. Also: The Commish received [...]
A tip jar–a second tip jar, actually–at the counter of the Bruegger’s Bagels on Market Street in downtown Philadelphia set off a chain of events that reaffirms belief that the right thing can happen. VCUs magical, improbable run to the Final Four is heartening and fun, indeed, but its unintended consequences are better. Dan Crain [...]
The national columnists are abuzz over VCU and the CAA. They are furiously churning out extremely high quality perspective and I’ve enjoyed most of them. And I mean that–there are some tremendous writers learning what we’ve known for awhile now. I’ve particularly enjoyed watching them discover the CAA and weave that discovery into words. But [...]
Brad Burgess stepped to the foul line with 14:10 to play yesterday, and VCU held a tenuous 45-39 lead on Kansas. Nobody knew it at the time, but that’s when the game actually ended. Oh the game had to play out–it’s a rule you play all 40 minutes–but its fate had been decided, even after [...]
We’re renting some property this weekend over at Around the Horns. Head over there until further notice, which is hopefully Sunday.

After spending some time this afternoon with the team, I’m prepared to call that line of thinking both on the [...]
We’re taking our act on the road. CAAHoops is headed to San Antonio with VCU. The material provided will be over at the VCU Athletics website, and I’ll provide copious cross-links so you miss nothing. We’ll be with the team, so if there’s anything you want to know, use the handy-dandy comments box below. (PS–don’t [...]
EDIT
Per Brian Mull’s most excellent summary, Ron Hunter has been hired as head coach at Georgia State. Hunter moves over from IUPUI to replace Rod Barnes. IUPUI defeated Hofstra in last year’s CBI tournament. A press conference is set for 3:00 today to officially unveil Hunter.
Honestly, you watched the game. There’s not much more that can be overanalyzed. You saw a carving worthy of Thanksgiving Day of one of the nation’s best defensive teams. Who would’ve thought that USCs 13-point loss would be the tightest game yet for VCU? Certainly not Digger Phelps, who I bet has seen VCU play [...]
