Jeff...I agree. This team would struggle w/o Long's multidimensional skills and experience. I don't want to turn the team over to the sophomores yet...I know it's thinking way ahead, but next year's team - with Long a senior, the sophomores as juniors, and this year's great freshman class with a year of experience - could be amazing. But, this year first...

from your article it basically seems that 6/7 of their top 10 are fresh/soph? That is always difficult, I'm not sold on Birdsong either..but Cam Long is really talented, better hope nothing happens to him, he might be the player most important to his team in the entire CAA.... outside of Charles Jenkins...

Hofstra and Mason in the same post? You trying to start a Tony Skinn moment or what?

I can't say I disagree on Mason...after ODU and NE, we should be the best in the conference at the BEGINNING of the season. If this team, though, becomes a TEAM by midseason, watch out. There's so much talent, but I agree with your rationale. As for Tate - yeah. He's a one-trick pony, and an average one at best. He won't see as many minutes this year, which is fine by me. I would lump Birdsong in that "Guy I'm Not Sold On" category, but I thought that a couple seasons ago. Pearson - love him. There's a passion about him on the court that compares to Mason Gods like Evans and Thomas. He refuses to quit, and I expect him to be a 12 pts/8 rbs/game man as soon as this season and even better than that by the CAA tourney.

I really am a big fan of Cam Long, based on his all-around game and his confidence on the court - plus, he played locally at Freedom HS in Woodbridge. But, I still think he's lacking that one defining game that provdes he's "the man." Who knows...it could come vs. Dayton or Madison...I just want to see it, and I think we'll know it when it comes. He's gotta be a 18-20 pts/4-5 asts./6-7 rbs./game guy for Mason this year, because the young guys are still too young to count on yet.

Birdsong: I just hope he shows up and does something in his final season worthy of note...I'm too hard on the guy, but...

Cornelius had a lot of hype coming out of Charlotte - I will be interested to see if he play more under control. I love his tenacity on D - I hope he gets more calls this year, since the refs seemed itching to call a foul last year every time he got aggressive.
