Very interesting: four CAA teams are ranked in the top 100 of the first College Basketball News RPI Report. I’d have to search some archives, but that seems like a very good number to start the season. No memory exists of having four in the top 100 to start the season in years prior.
Oh, and for your record-keeping: VCU (51); Mason (53); Old Dominion (81); Northeastern (84). Of note, JMU is at 122 and Drexel 134.
Tomorrow we discuss why this is important.

Thanks to Beach (with a hilarious John Feinstein line) via the Hofstra website we learn Hofstra may be without gunner Brad Kelleher for a few games to open the season. It seems the NCAA Clearinghouse is shuffling papers again.
Comparison note: Kentucky’s John Wall got two games for accepting expense money from a guy that was a coach-slash-agent. Kelleher played some pick up hoops in Australia. Think purity of intentions.

One day hiatus aside, JMU fans need to remember this: Pierre Curtis averaged more than 35 minutes per game as a freshman playing point guard. Assist to turnover ratio was 112/106. Curtis improved his sophomore year, going 114/74 as point guard.
When Matt Brady continually stresses the problem with losing Devon Moore is primarily going to be felt on defense, you need to listen to him.

Hmmm…interesting. Even though ODU and Northeastern are picked ahead of Mason going into this season by many, we’re much higher ranked than them in this RPI Report. I guess previous history is playing into this ranking.
I am curious what this “up-tempo” play means for Mason…we’ll find out soon enough.
I’m looking forward to my first Mason game of the season on Sunday vs. Darmouth.
