Conference (Boo) Weekly Honors: TJ Gwynn (VCU) shares the POW award with Samme Givens (Drexel). Gwynn knifed and shot his way to 20 points in VCUs win over Richmond, and Givens put a 24/16 on way-overmatched St. Francis. Hofstra’s Halil Kanecevic won ROY honors. HK averaged 9.5ppg, 9.0rpg, and 3.0bpg ion two Pride victories.

- Exams for players allows us all to rest a bit and get some shopping done; however of the 14 games this week, six are against BCS teams. It begins when Georgia State visits Florida State tonight. The Dub hosts Wake Forest on Wednesday and travels to play at Virginia on Saturday. ODU zips up to DeeCee on Saturday to take on Georgetown, and it ends Sunday with Hofstra and St. John’s playing in The Garden on Sunday.
- The CAA can certainly play defense: Old Dominion is ranked #2 in Division I in scoring defense (54.2 ppg), while Georgia State is 11th (56.7 ppg) and Drexel is 37th (60.0 ppg). In FG percentage defense, GSU is 21st (37.4%), Drexel is 34th (38%), Hofstra is 40th and James Madison is 47th (38.5%).
- Seven CAA teams are also ranked among the top 55 in the nation in 3-point FG defense, with VCU ranked 2nd (23.1%), GSU is 3rd (23.3%), UNC Wilmington is 11th (25.4%), Hofstra is 14th (26.1%), ODU is 25th (27.5%), JMU is 50th (29.8%) and Drexel is 55th (29.8%).
- Why do coaches want home games, other than the budget? CAA teams are 33-10 at home in non-conference play, but just 8-26 on the road and 6-10 on neutral courts.
- Quietly, Drexel is gaining momentum, and it has everything to do with Samme Givens. The Dragons have won five of their last seven, and Givens is shooting 71.4% (25-35) from the floor over the last four games and is averaging 14.8 ppg and 9.8 rpg during that stretch.
- All seven of Northeastern’s contests this season have been decided by six points or less and the Huskies have lost three straight games by a total of nine points.
- ODUs Kent Bazemore has started the past three games and is averaging 9.0 ppg in those contests. Also, ODU hasn’t allowed a team to score 70 points this season.
- Towson’s Brian Morris dished out eight assists against GW and leads the CAA with 40 assists (only 12 turnovers). Towson’s five losses have come to opponents with a combined record of 30-17.
- Lots of Fightin’ Pugs news: W&M is riding a six-game winning streak and off to its best start since 1992-93. David Schneider has scored double digits in all eight games this season and is the only player to rank among the CAA’s top 15 in scoring (18.1ppg/2nd), rebounding (6.5rpg/8th) and assists (2.9apg/13th).
- More Pug-Lovin’: Sophomore Quinn McDowell is contributing 14.6 ppg while shooting 54.2% from the floor. He has scored double figures in seven of eight contests. Junior Marcus Kitts has grabbed 10 or more boards in two of his last three games and ranks sixth in the league in rebounding (7.0 rpg).
- The Tribe has hit 10 or more treys in seven of its eight games and leads the CAA in 3-pointers per game (10.8) and 3-point FG% (41%). W&M has scored 75 or more points in six of eight contests.
