Four games tonight, highlighted by ODU vs. Charlotte. (You are officially old school if you still say UNCC and know the arm-chopping chant their fans used to make.) The Monarchs win tonight when Niners coach Bobby Lutz mistakenly channels Jim Zorn instead of Norman Dale, thus running the Swinging Gate instead of the Picket Fence on the game’s final possession.

ODU 63, Charlotte 61.

NU tries to shake off its 0-1 record in games played in Hawaii with a start time of 3:00. (Where else can you find brilliant statistical nuggets like that? eat that Pomeroy…) They will win comfortably. Not so much for Delaware, who gets Villanova. That could get ugly. And James Madison beats Fordham.

Last night was a bit of a horror. Towson laid an egg, and Mason nearly matched the performance, and NU needs to figure some things out. I have a theory, but it’s off to the mall for some last minute shopping for now. Have to get it finished so I can tune in to the NU game today.

Thankfully, we had the Fightin’ Pugs slipping past Radford. It was their eighth consecutive win. Quinn McDowell, who I will remind you was my vote for freshman of the year last year, led the way with 27 points. Shaverthatmustache got 18 solid minutes from Kendrix Brown and seven rebounds from Sean McCurdy (to offset another poor performance from Danny Sumner).

Perhaps it’s time to start campaigning for the Fightin’ Pugs seed instead of an at large bid. Somebody showed me the super-top-secret RPI calculations through last night’s play.

The Pugs are at #5. Five. Top #2 seed in the snake format five. Sandwiched between Texas and West Virginia five. Fourteen places ahead of #19 VCU five. Drexel’s nonconference SOS when they got screwed five.

(We all know how this NCAA seeding thing goes, and William & Mary is probably no better than a four seed at this point.)

Why yes, one more egg nog would be lovely…

So…Mason almost “laid an egg.” Interesting, Litos. Yes…crappy FT shooting when it matters and 20 TOs are ugly, but a win is still a win. Still, I don’t guarantee a win over Radford – also of the BS – next week. Mason’s road play this season is still TBD. Great games last night from freshmen Wright and Whack, solid All-CAA play from Pearson, and Hancock continues to be my CAA rookie of the year. Not sure why Cam Long didn’t shoot more…this was the PERFECT game to do so. The CAA slate is gonna be tough. But, what else is new…

    GO MASON.

    P.S.: Have fun shopping.

Any thoughts…(or if you’re like me, it’s the NBA and I don’t care).
