We’ll get to the weekend’s action later, but for now we have some random notes, and a huge warning: in 2010, CAA schools are 1-4-1 on Senior Day.

Georgia State lost to ODU, Drexel lost to UNCW, Northeastern lost to Hofstra, and The Pugs lost to Towson. VCUs win over JMU is the lone senior day celebration, and Delaware lost its final home game but they have no seniors. Hence the tie.

Final chance at some free tickets or a tee shirt. The contest ends Sunday. And don’t forget that nice link in the upper left with all the tourney info.

The CAA Tournament has a new title sponsor, the Virginia 529 College Savings Plan. There’s a lot of foofery in the press release, but the key part in my mind is the term: three years. That’s a good get in this economy.

Revisiting the All CAA items…at the risk of angering another group of fans, I’m not completely sure Gerald Lee is a first team All CAA choice anymore.

Now I know how odd that sounds, and I know it seems bizarre that the conference’s regular season champion may not have a first team All CAA player, but let’s think about it before dismissing.

Using conference games only (because that’s the best apples-to-apples comparison), Lee is 12th in scoring (13.6), 21st in rebounding (5.3), 21st in blocks (0.7).

His field goal percentage is not top 10, and Lee is the 11th most efficient player in the league. Lee is also 12th in the league in terms of percentage of his teams points (20.4%); 28th in percentage of his team’s rebounds (14.73%) and he plays 73.09% of his team’s minutes (21st).

That’s not earth shattering, first team stuff.

I think we can all agree, for the most part, that the top four players are Charles Jenkins, Larry Sanders, Chase Allen, and Denzel Bowles. That fifth spot–and read these next words clearly–is still up for grabs Saturday.

Gerald Lee, Matt Janning, Jawan Carter, David Schneider, Joey Rodriguez, and Jamie Harris are all bunched together.

3 year deal with Virginia 529 as a sponsor …. hmmm … does this mean that the tourney stays in Virginia (not necessarily Richmond) for the next 3 years also? I would think it would have to with that sponsor.

Can you give us another one of those Lee posts, maybe something about his stats in the past few tournaments???
