Amazing day here at HQ…CAA coaches are taking center stage. I keep trying to get to a state of the CAA post, but it’s futile in the flurry of coaching cacophony: Scroll down for news on Tim Welsh and Hofstra. Commentary coming later, but I should clarify that his contract is in excess of $600K [...]
Hofstra is announcing this morning at 11:00 that Tim Welsh is indeed its new head coach. There is a formal press conference tomorrow morning to officially introduce him. Sources tell me that Welsh’s deal is five years and in excess of $600,000. Those same sources said the reasoning for Welsh centered around his success at [...]
By the time I tee off on Friday afternoon, we could have two new coaches in the CAA. Brian Mull reports that The Citadel’s Ed Conroy has been offered the Wilmington job. ESPN is reporting that former Iona and Providence head coach Tim Welsh will be named to succeed Tom Pecora at Hofstra. A Thursday [...]
Might have more later today, but this should tide you over until some additional coaching news presents itself: An update on the Hofstra job, per the NY Daily News. You don’t even have to be a VCU fan, these guys do an outstanding job. Side note: VCU leads St. Louis 1-0 in the CBI best-of-three [...]
Because we don’t gossip here. Just not going to stoop to that level. However stay tuned to the tweetstream, as nuggets I pick up–actual items of real data, fact, or solid analysis–will be published there. @caabasketball (and you can hashtag #caahoops to join in) We are working on a pile of links–more good things I [...]
Today’s reason we have it better in the CAA: you can get the athletics director from one of your schools on the phone at noon on Sunday, and he has the time for you. We caught up to Hofstra AD Jack Hayes and asked about losing Tom Pecora, and on the Pride’s coaching search: “Yes [...]
Tom Pecora never lied to me. Not once. Not when I asked about things as mundane as Adrian Uter’s ankle injury; not when researching the book and I had to ask about his first wife (who was killed by a drunk driver); and not when I asked him one hour after the 2006 NCAA selection [...]
The rumor was rampant, even this morning when I dealt with questions about five different coaches. But we don’t gossip here. At around 3:30 the texts, emails, and calls started coming in. Now that Jeff Goodman has confirmed through multiple sources, we can say it. (Goodman is among the best at this thing, so I [...]
Blaine Taylor repeated the words three times out loud during the post game presser Saturday. It was obvious he repeated some form of them another one thousand times to himself: Baylor played about as well as they could, and managed to “escape” ODU. I’ve never seen Taylor at a loss for words. Ever. Not when [...]
SATURDAY MORNING EDIT Apparently the Baylor Nation is unable to grasp the views, and I admit that I probably need to be a little more detailed for the folks that don’t know the CAA…that’s no joke, so here’s the deal: Old Dominion doesn’t rely on shooting the basketball to win. I believe Baylor does. (Advantage [...]
